Life in the Time of Dementia: A Film Series Worth Your Evening
Life in the Time of Dementia: A Film Series Worth Your Evening
April 29, 2026

This May, Rochester's own Reel Mind Film Festival returns to The Little Theatre with a deeply timely series — Life in the Time of Dementia: Stories of Memory & Change — featuring three documentary films and post-screening panel discussions exploring memory, caregiving, and the shifting sense of self that comes with cognitive change.

For families navigating a loved one's dementia diagnosis, these are stories that often go unspoken. This series brings them into a shared space for reflection and dialogue.

The Lineup:

May 13 | Facing the Wind

(US, 2024 – 58 min)

Two women whose lives are upended by their husbands' Lewy body dementia diagnosis find each other — and build a podcast community rooted in humor, friendship, and resilience.

May 20 | The Genius of Marian

(US, 2013 – 85 min)

A son races to preserve the legacy of his mother, celebrated artist Marian, as Alzheimer's disease threatens to erase her precious memories.

May 27 | Human Forever

(The Netherlands, 2023 – 80 min)

Filmmaker Jonathan de Jong travels the world exploring how different cultures care for people living with dementia — and how we might make the future more beautiful and inclusive for them.
